Koos Verwey, a "born and bred" Namibian, grew up on a farm in the Kalahari. He then spent 16 yrs with the South African Special Forces, an elite military set-up that was heavily involved in the border war prior to Namibia's independence. For the past 20 years, Koos has been involved in tourism activities and community development in Kaokoland.

  • Tourists at Camp Syncro, took others on long tented tours, organised unique hiking tours and catered for film teams and television crews.
  • n the Marienfluss valley and developed the first campsites at Epupa.
  • There are very few roads in Kaokoland that he has not driven and few mountains that he has not climbed.
  • Through the changes that inevitably occur when development comes to an unspoilt area. He has witnessed the effects on people and the environment.

The operator, who has worked the most years in the area and who has covered the most terrain. In small groups of max 8 but optimum 4. Koos is "a real character". Those, who have been guided by him through the area and intimately met the people will certainly never forget.
